Did you know all our floors are suitable for DIY fitting?

For this month’s #FloorsForThought we’re offering ‘do-it-yourself’ tips and useful handy hints for floor laying in your home – helping you to create the perfect floor every time!

Offering a wide selection of coloured, patterned, wood-effect and textured tiles, here at Harvey Maria we’ve created vinyl floors to suit every taste, style and room requirement, for even for the most demanding of spaces.

Follow our top ten tips below to discover more and learn how to fit your new floor like a pro!

1 – The sub-floor onto which your new flooring is to be laid should be permanently dry, clean, rigid, free of flaws and flat.

2 – Suitable sub-floors include well-fitted plywood (from 4mm – 12mm, sufficient to provide a rigid base) and screeded concrete floors. See videos for fitting plywood and screeding below.

3 – Flooring should always be stored flat. Leave in piles in the room for at least 24 hours prior to fitting in order to acclimatise to the conditions of the room.

4 – The ambient room temperature, and the temperature of the flooring and adhesive, should be at least 18ºC (sub-floor temperature at least 15ºC).

5 – Underfloor heating should be switched off for 48 hours before and after laying your new floor, and gradually brought up to full operating temperature over a period of days.

6 – USE ONLY Harvey Maria recommended adhesives. For conservatories and areas with underfloor heating use the appropriate Harvey Maria specialist High-Temperature Adhesive.

7 – Work out your laying plan – check the fitting video below or visit the laying patterns page here. It’s usually best to begin laying from the centre of the room.

8 – Cut the tiles with a sharp Stanley knife, and have plenty of spare blades to hand. The fitting video has lots of time-saving tips including techniques for cutting at the edge of the room.

9 – Bed the floor into the adhesive by applying even pressure across the tile with a flooring roller or equivalent. Wipe away any excess glue while still wet and allow to dry.

10 – Regular sweeping and mopping will help protect your new floor & use a good entrance mat to trap dirt. For best results use the floor care kit.
