Kitchens are at the heart of every home – the centre of morning routines, inspiring us to try out new recipes, creating a sociable space for entertaining friends and even doubling up as a home office. This week’s blog will be looking at how to choose the right flooring for your dream kitchen, a renovation project many of us are taking on as we move into autumn. We will be sharing our top tips covering style to practicality as we take a look into one of the highest footfall areas of our homes…

Flooring made to last – family living and your time

Our Luxury Vinyl Tiles are designed to meet the demands of modern-day life, something that is extremely important when deciding on the right type of flooring for your project. How you use your space is an important consideration that will affect your flooring decision. Our floor tiles are not only a stylish choice for your home, but are also easy to clean and maintain (perfect for busy lifestyles, when you are time-poor – spending more time entertaining than clearing up afterwards!). They are also slip-resistant which gives more peace of mind, especially busy areas of the home. We love combining our patterned designs with our authentic MSeries woods to create zones and borders. Dividing open-plan rooms in this way is a trend known as zoning, and is massively practical for busy family homes. It allows multifunctional use of space without losing the contemporary and open feel, allowing you to separate dining and socialising areas of kitchens, or adding in a little office nook area so you can work from home in the comfort of your new kitchen.

Trending Herringbone –

One of the biggest trends of the year showcased by some of Instagram’s most influential creators is herringbone flooring in kitchens. Many of us are opting for LVT over real woods as they are more durable and more cost-effective than installing a real wood parquet floor. This design has gained popularity in kitchens due to its interesting pattern and luxurious provenance that looks great in a variety of kitchen styles. This also makes it future-proof as your floor will continue to remain timeless as your interior style evolves, making it a more sustainable option. Our new Hurst Herringbone collection celebrates this trending style, creating a modern luxe feel with its unique petite planks inspired by original timber parquet flooring. The collection is multi-tonal in design, creating an ultra-realistic finish that is incredibly practical, durable and sustainable.

Authentic woods & stone

Our MSeries collection of ultra-realistic woods (which includes the popular Hurst Herringbone) have the look and feel of real wood floors, but are more cost-effective and much easier to care for. Sustainability is becoming more and more important to us all. We are starting to choose products and materials that improve our indoor air quality and reduce energy consumption, pollution and waste. We are really proud that the MSeries collection is recognised for its low impact on the environment in all aspects – production process, product composition, emissions & indoor air quality and sustainable construction. The tactile top surface (known as embossed-in-register) features an extremely detailed matt woodgrain so they are incredibly realistic and have a lovely matt finish like real wood. LVT woods are a more cost-effective choice than traditional parquet floors, requiring less maintenance too. This way you can achieve on-trend styles that are guaranteed to last a lifetime.

Our Organics stone range replicates the detailed look of original stones and can be combined with our feature strips to give the appearance of traditional flagstone flooring. These designs are available in a range of grey and neutral stone, making them a super popular choice for kitchens as they complement a variety of interior styles.

Why choose LVT over ceramic –

Our patterned collections take inspiration from original victorian encaustic designs, such as Pattern and Northmore collections. These complement the history of a property whilst still blending well with contemporary schemes, adding character and chic style. Our LVT tiles not only exceed the look and feel of traditional ceramic tiles, they are also warmer and softer underfoot and can be installed with underfloor heating, creating a more cosy and comfortable kitchen space that you’ll want to spend time in (especially during those colder winter months!). Cooking can be hectic, so unlike ceramic tiles, they won’t crack if you drop a pan on them (another reason customers flooring looks great for years to come, and don’t need frequent repair or replacing like other flooring options).

Waterproof & underfloor heating

All our flooring is watertight when installed properly according to our fitting guidelines. We have our wonderful recommended fitters available to help bring your floor to life, just head to our website if you are looking for a recommendation harveymaria.com/find-a-fitter. In areas such as kitchens where we are running multiple appliances such as dishwashers and washing machines, you don’t need to worry about ruining your chic new floor. Our flooring’s compatibility with underfloor heating means they are a great choice year-round, creating a warmer feel underfoot that can make any space feel cosy during the colder seasons. This works particularly well in kitchens when you want a contemporary look but still a welcoming space that you’ll want to spend time in!

Make a narrow kitchen feel bigger –

One of the biggest questions we get about kitchens is which design would suit a narrower/ galley kitchen to get the best use of space as well as creating an eye-catching style. Pattern can actually give the appearance of a larger space, as the flooring becomes a main focal point and makes the kitchen stand out. Another way is to lay our longer planks along the length of the kitchen to draw the eye into the room, giving the appearance of a longer space. Clever storage solutions can also help with space utilisation, avoid clutter and instead create 3 main focal points: floor, decor and units. We love styling our floors with Devol kitchens as their traditional designs, heritage colours and outstanding craftsmanship work perfectly with our collections.
