What made you decide on a checkerboard floor for your home project?
When it comes to big decisions for our home, I’m often drawn to timeless choices such as patterns which I know I will take joy from for years to come. I definitely consider the checkerboard pattern to be a staple pattern. I love how you can match checkerboard patterns to lots of different colours without it looking too busy. I’ve found floor options tend to be quite plain, but there’s no reason why your flooring can’t be a statement piece that finishes off a room perfectly.
What and who is your main interiors and decor inspiration?
I get a lot of my inspiration online. I often start with a colour in mind that I want to use within a specific space and search from there. My go to paint and wallpaper brands include Lick and COAT. They have great inspiration for colour schemes which is super useful and have real life examples which I find the most useful as it can be difficult to tell from a colour swatch what it’s going to look like in person. Once I’ve got my colour scheme, I usually search Instagram and Pinterest to find inspiration with those chosen colours.
I also like to use a piece of artwork as my inspiration. Rose England London and Studio Cyl are some of my favourite places to buy prints. I pull colours out of the artwork to make a cohesive scheme. I do like a trend but tend to try and stick to timeless designs but TikTok is a great place for interior trends and how to videos which are also a great source of my inspiration.
How did you choose which colour checkerboard floor you’d like for your home?
I wanted a colour that complimented the pink and green kitchen but wanted something darker to give a contrast to the bright white walls. That’s why Ecru & Latte White worked so perfectly!
How easy was the process of getting samples from Harvey Maria and having the flooring installed?
Really easy. It didn’t take the fitter long at all to put in the flooring and there were no issues. I thought it would be difficult as we already had flooring in our kitchen but it was so simple taking it out and putting the new flooring in. The fitter loved the quality of the flooring.
What difference has the flooring made to your space?
It’s made the space feel much bigger and has added such a fun addition of colour. Your eye is drawn to the checks immediately and it’s so fun and contemporary. The flooring is easy to clean, a quick mop and vacuum and it looks just as good as the day it was laid. I use the Harvey Maria FloorSpa Kit to protect and clean the floor and it’s so simple to use.
What’s next on your home improvement wish list?
We’ve still got grey carpet upstairs in our home that needs to go! I would also love to put a colourful log burner into our living room to make it cosy for winter which would look amazing with our Harvey Maria Limed Oak Parquet.
