Cosy ways to decorate your home this autumn

The Halloween weekend is fast approaching, and as we reach peak pumpkin-filled, crunchy leaf and cinnamon-spiced treat season, we want to capture the essence of autumn within our homes. Today’s blog will provide inspiration for cosy ways to transform any space ready for the festivities of Bonfire Night and beyond, so you can take refuge from the colder nights in your snug home.

Making an entrance

One of the easiest ways to add a seasonal feel to your home is by creating a stylish hallway or entranceway. Our favourite way to do this is by adding a splash of colour through our patterned flooring collections. Dovetail French Clay, pictured below, is a beautiful blue-toned green design that is adaptable year-round to complement each season’s look. For autumn, contrast the natural green tones with gorgeous vibrant pumpkins; we love arranging them around our front doorways to add a bit of magic to the Halloween weekend festivities.

Using pattern to create a cosy home

A stylish new floor provides an instant update, introduces colour and brings warmth to your favourite rooms. Our popular patterns this autumn have come in warm greys and soft monotones – choose one that suits your mood and add a chic finishing touch to your new kitchen, bathroom, or hallway.; we love Lattice Pebble Grey for a pretty pattern that suits both rustic and contemporary interiors. You can combine it with one of our ultra-realistic authentic woods for extra cosiness. For a trending look, why not create zones or add borders with your flooring combination. This way of dividing rooms adds a more homely feel to open-plan spaces, perfect for multifunctional rooms that still want that sociable feel.

Introduce earthy tones and monochrome

As the evenings draw in, we’re looking for more ways to add warmth to our homes. Combining statement monochrome with earthy neutrals is a simple way to create a homely atmosphere that still has that on-trend vibe. Consider pairing our Heritage Squares in Stove Black and Linen White to create a checkerboard effect, then adding pops of dusky pinks with textiles and feature walls. Alternatively, opt for our various Terracotta floors such as Northmore Fired Terracotta which features both monochrome and warm terracotta tones for a striking and authentic look reminiscent of original encaustic tiles. Paired with soothing green kitchen units, this will create a space perfect for baking a batch of cinnamon biscuits for the ultimate autumnal feel.

Modern rustic styling

One of the trends we see on our Instagram feed frequently is Modern Rustic decor. This blends both contemporary and vintage/traditional interior schemes to create a home that both reflects innovative interior influences and authentic design, giving it a welcoming and cosy feel. We love how MSeries Natural Plank Tawn when used to draw together rustic seasonal styling with more modern furniture. This gives a subtle nod to the season, bringing a sense of the outdoors in. Why not plan a countryside walk and forage leaves, branches and add in fairy lights for a cosy setting.

Stylish colour drench

Colour drenching is a trend we’re loving for 2021. To get the year-round colour drench look in your home, opt for a strong and consistent colour scheme throughout, and match flooring with textiles, colour block walls and decor. This adds a chic look to any room that showcases your interior style. Some of our favourite designs to colour drench with include Dovetail Oxford Blue, various combinations of our Heritage Squares and of course our nature-inspired Pattern collection that comes in the autumnal Pattern Warm Terracotta colourway.
